ABOUT US

Drama in the Woods was formed in North London in 2013 by Sinead Hamilton and Emily Parker. It began as a small holiday project, to get children (including Sinead and Emily’s own children) outside to create exciting theatre in a beautiful, natural environment, with the woods as our backdrop.

This quickly evolved into regular week long projects which became so much more than the end theatre performance. We found that the young people involved loved exploring the woodland and so we devised wonderful activities that allowed them to do this. We discovered we were able to fuse open-air theatre with forest school and outdoor activities to create a truly unique experience for each and every member, whether they enjoyed drama or not. We continue to do this and every project brings something new and different from the last.

With every Drama in the Woods project, the emphasis is always on fun. So much is crammed into a week. The key to this is great staff. Having an amazing team of vibrant, experienced and committed staff allows us to facilitate a whole range of activities throughout the week, with our members having the freedom to choose. Member led, collaborative activities are at the heart of Drama in the Woods.

Of course, within this, there is always a very clear structure, and safety has to be the number one priority. But from our members perspective, they feel a huge sense of freedom, security and trust. This, in turn, leads to independence and growth, as our members are encouraged to discover new things about themselves and others. This makes the experience meaningful and empowering.

Each Drama in the Woods project has at least two first aiders on hand who hold full Red Cross certificates.

All of our staff hold fully enhanced DBS certificates.
